In 1321, and due to the Despensers, civil war broke out in England. This internal conflict was compounded by the possibility of war with France due to the king's refusal to pay homage to the new French monarch.

However, these political events are nothing more than circumstances that involve our protagonist, a southern earl who, in his selfish desire and violent search for recognition, falls in love and stumbles upon the path to his redemption.
